About Issue 09:
A rock is a monument is a book...
This limited edition issue of Field Notes (Index_23) memorializes 3.5 weeks spent in Scotland during August 2023. Channeling construction methods I was exploring in my studio practice around that time, the pages of this issue are unbound and instead fixed with a large gold binder clip; each page is a rock that can be moved around, flipped, and paired with others in order to build bigger rock formations. Each issue is therefore one-of-a-kind, an interpretation based on its collector. This book is a monument, a memory, a collaboration.
All images were captured on an afternoon hike along the shoreline of Pathhead Sands, Kirkcaldy, Fife with Kirsty and Emma on August 14, 2023, 12:22–12:40 pm.

About this project
My work is rooted in ritual. I am interested in the accumulation and evolution of behavior, content, and form over time. Field Notes (Index_23) is a quarterly publication that acts as a physical archive for the curation and distribution of concepts and techniques that I am currently developing in my studio practice. All writing, photography, designs, and concepts are original, unless otherwise noted. Each issue is designed to reflect its content; no two are the same. This is Issue 09.
